12/9 Wreath 101

 DIY

It's an old tradition to make pine wreaths or garland most every year for the holiday season.

I find them to be a wonderful statement on doors, windows, walls or even on a table.
Easy to make and budget - friendly [ less then $5] they are one of the best ways to bring that wonderful smell of pine into and around the house.
Don't be scared away ! I promise it's easy.
So let's get to it.

You'll need:

Newspaper
Tape
Green floral wire
Garden gloves [ optional]
Garden clippers

Greenery trimmings of your choice cut the branches in 6inch pieces before you start it makes the whole process much faster.  I like mixing the trimmings pine, rosemary, evergreen, boxwood, ivy, holly. It all works.

Next put your newpaper page lenghtwise in front of you and start by loosely rolling / twisting it up into a "paper sausage".
To add lenght to this take a new newspaper sheet and the end of the first papersausage and start roling one end of the sausage up into the new sheet. L l

Next shape it into a circle and connect the ends by wrapping some tape around.
It doesn't have to be pretty just a good circular base.
I like to take the wire and wrap it all the way around the circular wreath base on a diagonal before I start incorporating the greenery.
Once you've gone around 360 twist the wire ends together but don't cut.

To start take the end of the wire twist it around the paper base and secure by twisting it.
Take a handful of greenery bundle it up with the ends right over the secured wire on the topnand the bottom of your base. Lay t on a slight diagonal pull the wire and  wrap it a few times.

Now take another bundle lay it by overlapping the first and while wrapping the wire around shape the pine around your paper base.
Once you get the hang of it it's a really quick thing. Just keep up bundling and wrapping.
Once gone full circle you can add pieces of greenery were you feel the base didn't get covered enough.
Now tuck the end of wire somewhere in ... You're done !!
Personally I like a modern clean look but you can embellish your wreath as much or little as you'd like.
