pomegranate the fruit of the gods is as delicious in color as it is to eat. once peeled and carefully extracted from little compartments within, the juicy sweet yet tart seeds are filled with vitamin c, potassium, fiber, protein and potential antioxidants.

but getting to those yummy little gems effectively without "spray painting" the walls and cupboards in sticky red specks can be a pain... if you have been avoiding to indulge yourself in this wonderful fruit for just mentioned reasons then give this a try...

i have found that the easiest way to get to the little red jewels is to ....
  • cut the pomegranate in half
  • fill a bowl with cold water and stand it in the middle of your sink
  • take one half of the fruit holding on to it submerge into the water bowl and start breaking the fruit apart 
  • now gently loosen / peel the seeds free from the membrane  ( due the same to the other half) 
  • skim all the white little parts and membrane off the water 
  • pour the contents of the bowl through a small netted sift 

voila, have yourself some yummy pomegranate seeds without the mess and major cleanup.

pomegranate seeds are great by themselves but also a delicious addition in salads savory or sweet, in desserts, or even in one or the other drink. watch out for recipes featuring pomegranate ...
