"all chalked up"

a very late "throwback thursday" DIY post

a few years ago i just about had had enough of constantly running out of glasses when it seemed i had just unloaded the dishwasher. putting water glasses in "designated" spots in the kitchen never worked either because coming back it felt worse then finding your car in the disneyland parking lot.( was it goofy level, or mickey? is it the one by the toaster or the...? you get the idea)
long story short i figured let's paint them with some chalk paint and three something years later they are well beyond the "test phase".  you'll see it's easy, fun and maybe even a bit environmentally friendly !!

 you need:

  • water glasses (wash and dry to clean off any grease )
  • masking tape
  • chalk paint
  • brush ( i used a wide brush )
  • chalk :)
  1. make sure your glasses are grease free and i mean free of even the slightest residue of hand cream or so. washing them with dish soap and drying well should do. not sure clean area to be painted with rubbing alcohol
  2. tape up the area you'd like to paint with masking tape making sure that all edges are flush with the glass ( keeping the paint from bleeding underneath). on my glass i taped a strip of about 1 1/2 inches all around. i happened to like the look better then just a "name tag rectangle" you could also use a stencil. just experiment around.
  3. grab your chalk paint, give it a good stir before starting
  4. let's get the paint party started and give it a few coats of paint letting the paint dry in between coats
  5. i dried mine overnight and VOILA had "chalked up" glasses in the morning

we doodle on them, initial them, leave little notes...

go for it make some too !
